Most people come to Thailand for the islands, the temples and the nightlife of Bangkok. Almost nobody comes here. After crossing the Mekong from Laos into Nakhon Phanom, my dad and I set out to ride through Isan, Thailand's vast north east, with one week to reach Bangkok. We knew almost nothing about this region, but what we found here changed how we saw the whole country.
