Some people aren’t defending truth; they’re finding morally acceptable ways to hate others. Criticism is necessary for a healthy society. Challenge ideas, expose hypocrisy, question institutions, and condemn wrongdoing. But there’s a difference between attacking an argument and attacking a person’s dignity. When disagreement becomes humiliation, contempt, and dehumanization, cruelty becomes easier to justify. A healthy society encourages fearless criticism without normalizing hatred.
