This stream is originating from the live special showing of "The First: Stories That Changed Duchenne," at the UCLA Nimoy Theater, Sunday October 25, 2026. In 2016, the FDA was actively in review of what would become the first approved therapy to treat Duchenne muscular dystrophy–a severe and progressive genetic disease. As a unified voice of advocates, patients, scientists and researchers, the Duchenne community banded together to push hard for the approval of a promising new treatment. "The First" features original researchers, clinicians, regulators, parents and patients who were part of that initial clinical trial and provides a riveting look at the impact one drug’s approval process had, not only on a community in need but toward a crescendo in national attention for something larger. This courageous story marks a watershed moment in the history of rare disease drug development and patient advocacy, uniquely told from the inside out.
