RCGS: Q&A - "Return of the Sacred Red Rock" Documentary, Directed by Jeremy Charles

The Sacred Red Rock, also known as Iⁿzhúje'waxóbe, was returned to the Kaw Nation in June 2024 after being separated from the tribe for nearly a century. The 28-ton quartzite boulder, originally from the confluence of the Kansas River and Shunganunga Creek, Kansas, was relocated to Allegawaho Memorial Heritage Park, on Kaw Nation land. This return marks a significant event in the tribe's history and a step towards healing and reconciliation with the city of Lawrence, where it had been displayed in Robinson Park next to City Hall since 1929. "Return of the Sacred Red Rock," a feature-length documentary, chronicles the events leading up to the rematriation" of the stone to the Kaw Nation. The film is directed by Jeremy Charles (Cherokee).
