A funeral home looks like a small, grim, embarrassing little business. It is the embarrassment that costs you. Death care is the only retail trade in America whose customer cannot cancel, cannot shop around at the moment of purchase, and arrives, on average, exactly on schedule. This video walks the real unit economics of owning a funeral home. Why the business is priced not on customers but on the "call," and what a home's annual call count actually has to clear before the fixed plant... the licensed building, the prep room, the hearse, the director on call at three in the morning... stops eating the owner alive. We look at the pricing power of a customer negotiating on the worst morning of his life, the median ten-thousand-dollar burial and six-thousand-dollar cremation, and why the federal Funeral Rule exists at all. We look at the pre-need contract, the strange float in which you are paid today for a service you will render in fifteen years, and the Missouri pre-need fraud that rewrote the trust laws. Then the number quietly taking the whole model apart: cremation, already above sixty percent of the country and headed past eighty, compressing the dollars per funeral while detaching the customer from the building entirely. And the publicly traded consolidator that has run all of this math already, pays more than you can, and leaves the local family's name on the door on purpose. What follows disagrees, in several specific places, with what the broker, the seminar, the magazine, and possibly your accountant will tell you. The disagreement is not theatrical and it is not a sales position. It is the result of comparing what these industries publish about themselves to what their own filings, court records, and exiting operators actually report. Where the two disagree, this channel tends to side with the second category. #expensiveretirements #funeralhome #deathcareindustry
