God’s Kingdom first: The bread of the Word takes precedence over material bread. 2. God provides: Pray about the bread of today and not for the bread of tomorrow. 3. God knows: We should never presume to know what tomorrow will bring. “To be anxious about tomorrow is to act as though God Himself were merely mist. It is to forget who and what God is.” “Your anxiety cannot gain you any more or any less than what God has already decided will be yours for that day. It is a vain thing to resist or to forget God’s loving providence.” “One has to forget who God is before he doubts God’s providence.” Follow-up questions: 1. How is being and remaining anxious about the future (like the pagans) sinful? 2. In what ways are we to prioritize our daily spiritual bread over merely material bread? 3. How is that important? 4. How is it true that we get everything we need when we seek God’s kingdom and righteousness above all? 5. Does this somehow invalidate hard work or careful planning? 6. Why not? 7. How is seeking to go beyond what God has apportioned to us in the day actually a rejection of God’s providence? 8. Do you trust that God will provide you with what you need?
