The Hainanese are an ethnic Chinese group whose ancestors migrated from Hainan Island in southern China to Southeast Asia. Drawing inspiration from Hainanese musical elements, the work evokes a sense of nostalgia and cultural identity, weaving together lyrical melodies with rich harmonic textures. The piece invites listeners on a journey through time, honouring the stories and traditions of a community while resonating with universal themes of belonging and remembrance.
