In this video, we’re going to look at how each of The Jeffersons cast members died as well as what the two living cast members are up to now. The Jeffersons was a spin-off of the hit show All in the Family. It debuted in 1975 and was on the air for 11 seasons, through 1985. Sherman Hemsley played the out-of-his-element nouveau riche George Jefferson. His bluster and arrogance made him an audience favorite on the show. Isabel Sanford played his wife Louise “Weezy” Jefferson. Roxie Roker played the Jeffersons’ neighbor Helen Willis, who was married to Franklin Cover’s Tom Willis. The Willises were the first interracial married couple on an American network television show. Zara Cully played Olivia Jefferson, affectionately known as “Mother” Jefferson on the show. She had been acting for many years prior to the show’s debut and her experience was evident. Paul Benedict played another one of the Jeffersons’ neighbors, Harry Bentley. While his character was quintessentially British, Benedict was not from England in real life. The show’s fans had no idea however, due to the quality of his accent and his mannerisms. Two of the last surviving members of The Jeffersons cast are Marla Gibbs, who played the Jeffersons’ maid Florence Johnston, and Berlinda Tolbert, who played Jenny, the daughter of the Willises next door.
