Edit: To those that had questions that I did not reply to: My dear husband passed away from Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer in February 2019. Although I know that he is now pain free and in Heaven with our Lord and Savior, the overwhelming grief of losing my soulmate consumed me. I realize that I must go on to honor his memory and all of the work he put in to our little business. To that end I will answer any new questions to the best of my ability. Thank you for understanding. Cory
Making Your Own Melt and Pour Base was really inspired by Cathy McGinnis. She has inspired me every day to stretch out of my comfort zone and try new things and new techniques, and for that I thank her.
Base Recipe
5.10 oz Distilled Water
2.44 oz Sodium Hydroxide
5 oz Castor oil
6 oz Coconut Oil
6 oz Tallow - I used deer tallow
9 oz bio-based 1,3-propanediol
3 oz Vegetable glycerin
3 oz Sugar completely dissolved in
3 oz Distilled water
1. Mix lye and distilled water
2. Measure and melt oils
3. Mix lye solution into melted oils and bring to trace
4. Cook till gel is complete
5. Measure and add solvents:
a. bio-based 1,3-propanediol - stir well to incorporate
b. vegetable glycerin - stir well to incorporate
c. sugar solution - stir well to incorporate
6. Cover and cook 20-40 minutes stirring occasionally until clear.
7. Pour into prepared mold. I use silicone. I think it is easier to deal with.
