DCU Lanterns ENDING | My Honest Thoughts

HBO's Lanterns Season 1 finale is officially here, and I have some incredibly honest thoughts on how James Gunn’s DCU handled these iconic characters! In this video, we are breaking down the shocking ending of Episode 8 ("Dirt and Stars"), diving deep into Hal Jordan’s tragic death, and analyzing the complex, emotional relationship between Hal and John Stewart. The Character Builds (TV vs. Comics) Let's be completely real—this is not the traditional, invincible cosmic Hal Jordan we know from the comic books. The show gave us a deeply grounded, flawed, and weathered version of Hal (Kyle Chandler) alongside a brilliant, measured John Stewart (Aaron Pierre). I'm sharing my unfiltered review of how these characters were built for a gritty, True Detective-style Earth-bound mystery. Did the grounded approach do them justice, or did it strip away too much of their superhero grandeur? The Truth About Hal Jordan's Death & The Ending The mystery of who killed Hal Jordan in 2026 has finally been solved, and the twist completely upended expectations. We break down the devastating reality of Sheriff Kerry Kane (Kelly Macdonald) pulling the trigger, Noah being the last Manhunter, and what Sinestro’s looming presence means for the cosmic side of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Was Hal's sudden death a poetic end to his arc of finding true love, or did it feel anticlimactic for a legendary Green Lantern? Hal and John's Dynamic The absolute heart of this entire season was the friction, respect, and eventual brotherly love between Hal and John. Even with Hal appearing as a hologram guiding John through the investigation, their bond is what ultimately uncovered the truth. We break down Hal's final words, John's decision to become an unsanctioned Green Lantern operating outside the Guardians' oversight, and where John's story goes next in the DCU.
