Quite a long title huh
Hildinakvadet, or known simply as Hildina in Orkney, is an old folk song likely originating from Orkney, about Orkney.
This version of the song is sung in mostly dialectal Norwegian by Harald Foss, but features some Norn words and spellings.
I could find zero official lyrics to this version of the song, or any other version of the song, that actually lined up with the lyrics sung. As I am more comfortable with Norwegian, I picked the Norwegian version to uncover the lyrics as best I could. But it is very possible I have translated or heard wrong.
The song is about the earl of Orkney, a subject to the king of Norway, and his escapade to 'take' or run off with the king's daughter, Hildina. The earl and king eventually settle on a deal. The full story/ballad is much longer than this version in the song, I would recommend looking it up!
The original song: (I could not find the song uploaded by Harald Foss' own account, but go check his music out!)
