Malir River Karachi, Sugarcane Farming for the First Time in Malir

Malir River Karachi, Sugarcane Farming for the First Time in Malir In this video, we explore a remarkable side of Karachi’s Malir — where sugarcane farming is being carried out for the first time in this area. Malir has been known for centuries for its green landscapes, fertile land, and agricultural traditions. Despite the many challenges and changes this land has faced over the years, farming has continued to survive here. In many places, the land has been developed and transformed, yet local farmers have continued their efforts to keep agriculture alive. At a time when some people are moving away from farming and leaving their agricultural land behind, others are still working to keep this land green and productive. I also made a small personal effort by growing sugarcane on my own land in Malir — and the results were far beyond what I expected. This experience showed me that even though Karachi is a major urban city, its land still has the potential to produce and support agriculture. Through this video, we take a closer look at sugarcane farming in Malir, the farming practices being used, and the efforts being made to keep agriculture alive in Karachi.
