One Question From His Mother Ended His Career At 52. Could You Do It?

At 52 I quit as a CEO to try food self sufficiency on a farm in the Finnish countryside, 300 km below the Arctic Circle. I quit at 52 with no farming experience at all. My mother asked me once whether I was going too fast. I didn't stop. She died a year ago, and last winter I went to the board and told them they needed to find another CEO. Now I don't have a job, and I'm trying to find out whether a man who has never farmed anything can replace 12,000 euros a year of supermarket food with what he grows, forages and stores himself. This is the whole story of why I left the hamster wheel, where I landed, and what it is costing. WHAT IS IN THIS ONE The startup CEO years and the pace that nearly broke me. WHERE THIS IS Living in Finland, in the middle of Lakeland. 300 km below the Arctic Circle, 70 miles from the Russian border. A Finnish winter here gets to minus 38 Celsius. Not many foreigners know this part of rural Finland, but this is the real Finland. Growing my own food, learning old skills, and finding out whether a career change at 52 was the best decision of my life or the most expensive mistake in it. I do not have a five year plan.
