Want to learn how to 180 on a BMX bike? This is one of the most important beginner BMX tricks and opens the door to fakies, 360s, 180 variations and tons of other tricks. The 180 is basically a bunny hop with rotation—and one of the biggest secrets to learning it is to CHEAT THE CARVE. The more you carve before you bunny hop, the less rotation you actually have to do in the air. In this BMX tutorial, I'll show you: • How to carve into a 180 • How much you should carve when learning • Why your bunny hop is so important • How to get your back wheel off the ground • How pushing the bars forward helps your rotation • Why you need to turn your head and shoulders • Which direction you should spin • How to gradually carve less and spin more • How speed affects your fakie after landing Start by carving heavily—even close to 90° if you need to—and only spinning the remaining rotation. As you get more comfortable, gradually reduce the carve and do more of the 180 in the air. One of the biggest mistakes beginners make is dragging the back wheel through the rotation. Think about doing a proper bunny hop: front wheel up, pull the bars toward you, then PUSH the bars forward to bring the rear wheel up. CHEAT THE CARVE → BUNNY HOP → TURN YOUR HEAD → LAND FAKIE. Once you have the 180 itself figured out, you can start working on your fakie and rollout.
