Meatbag & Machine - "A Song For The Lost" (Official Lyric Video)

“A Song For The Lost” by Meatbag & Machine is a dark folk-horror lullaby that sounds like it was passed down by people who knew better than to speak openly about what lives in the woods. Beneath its quaint, nursery-rhyme melody lies a collection of warnings for those who find themselves alone in the forest after sundown. Don’t follow the lights. Don’t look back when you hear footsteps. Don’t count the trees. And if the fire begins to burn strangely, leave it be. The reasons are never explained. Perhaps they were never meant to be. As the song unfolds, the forest begins to feel less like a place and more like something patiently waiting. Its paths are familiar until they aren’t. Its sounds begin to resemble voices. And the warnings themselves carry the unsettling implication that someone, somewhere, has already made every mistake the song cautions against. But the final warning is different. It isn’t about the forest, or the dark, or whatever might be waiting beyond the trees. It’s about the song itself. By then, the listener has already heard every word.
