Dogs and RV Life - Is It Safe to Travel with Them? Scenario - You're rving with your dog in an area that has many places to explore. (Our case would be Lancaster, PA) You decide to take a train ride and explore the large train museum. The facility is 45 minutes from your campsite. Dogs are not allowed. However, you have brought Fido with you to the campground. It is early August. Temps today should be 98. However, you are prepared. You have the AC on in the camper; you have a monitoring system set up. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to you, there was construction work going on near the campground, and a machine cut a main line. Power was off for three hours. In the big train museum, you didn't realize it, but you had no signal. I won't go on, but I can assure you, this is a tragedy, What was planned to be a wonderful vacation has now become a heart-breaking situation that will haunt your memory for years. So, is it safe to travel with your dog? In a better scenario, you and your wife are just going on a drive to explore the area. Fido can come along. However, two hours later and 50 miles from the campsite, you see a nice restaurant, and you are hungry. You can't leave Fido in the truck (or you shouldn't), so you only have one option... turn around and head back to the campsite or settle for fast food. Rennie and I have RVed for over forty years. Ten years before that, we tent-camped. Because of so many limitations, we chose to leave our family pet with relatives or friends. If none of them were available, we would board them at a pet boarding facility. We didn't want to leave our dog alone in the RV or tent. As I mentioned in the video, we are spontaneous, and we like to make stops some distance from the campground. Sometimes, we like to stay gone all day, which means it wouldn't be fair to our pet to leave them alone for a long period of time. I know some of my favorite YouTube RVers have pets that travel with them. Please know that I am not trying to be critical of you. If you decide to bring your family pet along, I fully understand. I love watching you interact with your dog... or cat. However, based on the way Rennie and I like to travel, we have chosen to not bring an animal along. Actually, our family dog Zack died after being with us for 20 years. Our hearts were broken. We have decided at this time in our life to not get another dog. We absolutely love keeping Mouse. In fact, she is lying right beside my chair as I am typing this. When Jonathan gets back from his trip, he will pick her up, and we will head out on another adventure.
