India Emerges As Global Growth Engine With IMF Forecasting 7% GDP Expansion For Two Full Years Ahead

The IMF has put India back in the global growth spotlight. Its October outlook projects 7% GDP growth for India in FY26 and FY27, raising the forecast as resilient domestic demand and strong services activity offset higher oil prices and global uncertainty. Favourable demographics, a large domestic market and structural reforms are adding to the momentum. China remains a major engine, but its growth is expected to slow to 4.5% in 2026 and 4% in 2027. The wider world is moving at a much slower pace, with global growth seen at 3.1% in 2026 and 3.4% in 2027. The World Bank and OECD have also upgraded India’s outlook.
