How to Track Project Progress Automatically in Notion

Want to automatically track how much of a project is complete in Notion? In this tutorial, I'll show you how to calculate project progress directly from your tasks using just one rollup. You’ll build the entire system from scratch and connect a Notion task database to a project database. Once everything is connected, Notion will automatically calculate your project completion percentage based on the tasks you’ve completed. Here’s what we’ll cover: ➡️ Create a Project database in Notion ➡️ Create a separate Task database for your individual tasks ➡️ Add a Status property to track tasks as Not Started, In Progress, or Done ➡️ Create a Relation between your Task database and Project database ➡️ Connect your tasks to the projects they belong to ➡️ Add a Rollup to your Project database ➡️ Configure the Rollup to calculate the percentage of completed tasks ➡️ Automatically update project progress whenever a task is marked complete ➡️ See how the same system works with multiple projects The finished Notion project tracker automatically calculates your progress without requiring a complicated formula or manually updating percentages. For example, if 3 out of 10 tasks are complete, Notion will show 30% project progress. Complete another task and it automatically changes to 40%. Complete another one and it changes to 50%. This is a simple way to create a Notion project progress tracker using databases, relations, and rollups.
