The complete Streets of Rage (1991) soundtrack reimagined as an epic cinematic orchestral score. This full Sega Mega Drive OST remix album transforms Yuzo Koshiro's legendary soundtrack into sweeping orchestral, cinematic and symphonic arrangements. There are some video game soundtracks that simply accompany the game — and then there are soundtracks that become part of its identity. For me, Streets of Rage is firmly in the second category. Released for the Sega Mega Drive in 1991, Streets of Rage combined dark city streets, gangs, neon-lit backdrops and classic side-scrolling beat-'em-up action with a soundtrack that sounded unlike almost anything else coming from a games console at the time. The original music was composed by the legendary Yuzo Koshiro, whose combination of electronic dance music, house, club rhythms and the distinctive sound of the Mega Drive helped give Streets of Rage an atmosphere that remains instantly recognisable decades later. This collection is my own epic cinematic score reinterpretation of the original Streets of Rage soundtrack. Rather than trying to replace what made the original music special, I wanted to approach those familiar melodies from a completely different direction — expanding them into large-scale orchestral pieces with sweeping strings, brass, percussion, cinematic dynamics and the sense that the streets of Wood Oak City have suddenly become the setting for an enormous film score. Underneath all of that orchestral weight, however, is the music that inspired it. This project is therefore very much a tribute to Yuzo Koshiro, to Sega's original Streets of Rage, and to a soundtrack that demonstrated just how much personality and musical ambition could be squeezed out of 16-bit hardware. For anyone who spent their childhood walking those streets as Axel, Blaze or Adam — I hope this brings back a few memories.
