The Societal and Policy Landscape of Autonomous Mobility — Insights from the Field

What does autonomous mobility mean for society? Beyond the technology itself, how is it regulated, debated and shaped by different actors? In California, autonomous mobility is not only a technological shift, it is a policy and societal matter. Through conversations with public authorities, associations and local stakeholders, this video explores how regulations are defined, why they matter, and how different groups are impacted. From state-level regulation to county-level planning, from accessibility advocates to cycling organisations — this video provides a grounded perspective on how autonomous mobility is negotiated in real-world contexts. This is not a theoretical analysis. It is based on field interviews and direct conversations with those shaping and experiencing these systems today. __________________________________________________________________________ 🎥 In this video, we explore: How autonomous mobility is regulated in California Why policy plays a central role in deployment The perspectives of local authorities and public institutions The role of associations representing accessibility and cycling How different stakeholders perceive risks, opportunities and impacts Why societal acceptance is key to the future of mobility __________________________________________________________________________ 🌍 About Mobility Masterclass Mobility Masterclass is a learning-by-doing platform dedicated to understanding mobility innovations through field experience.
