"Be holy, for I am holy." We've turned that into a compliment. But the original Hebrew word — qadosh — never meant nice, pure, or pleasant. It meant set apart to the point of danger. Touch it wrong, and it could kill you. Uzzah found that out the hard way. In this video, we dig into the real meaning of "holy" in the original Hebrew (qadosh) and Greek (hagios), trace it through Mount Sinai, the tabernacle, Isaiah's vision in the temple, and the moment Jesus touches a leper and nothing happens the way it's supposed to. Then we follow it all the way to the cross, where the veil that once meant certain death is torn in two. This is a word study on holiness in the Bible — what it meant before four centuries of English drift turned a warning label into a Hallmark card. 📖 Scriptures covered: 2 Samuel 6, Exodus 3 & 19, Isaiah 6, Mark 1 & 5, Matthew 27, Hebrews 10, 1 Peter 1, Leviticus ⏱ TIMESTAMPS 0:00 – Uzzah touches the ark and dies instantly 1:35 – The word we've gotten wrong: what "holy" actually means 2:20 – Qadosh: holiness as separation, not sentiment 3:15 – Why furniture, mountains, and days can be "holy" 4:10 – Holiness as voltage: the ancient Near Eastern view 5:00 – Mount Sinai: "whoever touches the mountain shall die" 6:30 – Isaiah 6: "Holy, holy, holy" and why Hebrew repeats it 7:45 – Inside the temple: the Holy of Holies and the rope on the priest's ankle 9:00 – Hagios: how the New Testament carries the danger forward 9:45 – How English softened "holy" from Old English to the King James Bible 11:00 – The command "be holy" isn't asking you to be nice 11:45 – The turn: Jesus touches a leper and nothing bad happens 12:40 – The bleeding woman touches Jesus and is healed instead of defiling Him 13:30 – The veil torn top to bottom: what it actually means 15:00 – What this means for you 16:30 – Final thought: Uzzah's hand vs. Jesus's hand 🔑 Keywords: what does holy mean in the bible, meaning of holy hebrew, qadosh meaning, hagios greek meaning, holy in hebrew and greek, biblical meaning of holiness, Uzzah ark of the covenant, why did Uzzah die, holiness of God explained, torn veil meaning, Isaiah 6 holy holy holy meaning, original language bible study, bible word study holy, meaning of sacred in the bible, Mount Sinai holy ground meaning 🙏 If this reframed how you read the word "holy," subscribe and drop a comment — even one word helps more people find these studies.
