TRIP REPORT | Flying Over the Arctic, An Incredible Trip! | Svalbard to Trondheim | SAS A320Neo

SAS Trip Report flying from Svalbard (Longyearbyen) to Trondheim via Oslo on a beautiful summer afternoon. A comfortable trip onboard 2 SAS Airbus A320Neo from Longyearbyen (Svalbard) to Trondheim (via Oslo International airport). We flew in SAS Plus, which is SAS's own interpretation of business class, which made the flight even more comfortable. This Trip Report starts with some views of Svalbard. Let me just say that it is an incredible place. It really looks like another planet. The airport of Longyearben is for sure the most unique airport I've ever been to: everything is just in 2 rooms. In one, you have check-in and baggage reclaim. On the other the only boarding gate that this airport has. Period. That's the airport :) We took off from runway 27 in Svalbard, which means towards the Norwegian Sea. The mountains, the cliffs, the frozen sea... all together mix to offer one of the most amazing departure views I have ever seen. Svalbard is amazing and for sure I will come back during the winter (not polar night, but winter) for the more than amazing views with all covered in snow and ice. The flight to Oslo took almost 3 hours. It's a pretty long journey with a lot of headwind. We entered Norway to the north of Trondheim, which by the way was our final destination. After some nice views of the fjords, we started our approach for an on-time landing in Oslo. The transit in Oslo was really quick. After a brief visit to the SAS business lounge and some planespotting, we boarded the second SAS A320neo that would take us to Trondheim. This second flight took place under the Midnight Sun. At this time of the year, there is no proper night in this area of Norway, yes, the Sun does down, but there's always light. It was a really fast flight. Special mention to the approach to Trondheim with a really amazing light. About the onboard service, SAS Plus is SAS's interpretation of the European Business Class. But in this case, it doesn't even have a middle seat blocked. The food is quite small and always cold. There's not even an option to pre-order a proper warm meal. That being said, the Roast Veal served on the flight to Oslo was pretty good. Luckily, SAS has already announced the recovery of a proper European business for short and medium haul, starting very soon. Now it is your turn! Have you ever flown with SAS? How was the experience?
