Recorded on MAME 0.287 (psu wpoutxl).
Note that I recorded the walkthrough without music (SFX only). I anticipated copyright issues and most of the video being force-muted on YT.

Wipeout is the second entry in the Wipeout series, an "anti-gravity" racing game series where cars are replaced by hovercraft-like ships.
Wipeout is the Super Mario Kart of the Playstation.
Its futuristic identity is backed by The Designers Republic (graphics) and punchy electronity music from renown artist (music), including Orbital and The Prodigy.
Ship handling is a improvement over the very first Wipeout's.
Ships feel lighter, are easier to maneuvre and collision handling in particular is more lenient and feels better. Collisions are more lax and slow the ship less, it is also possible to graze the walls, to a nice effect.
In Wipeout brakes are called "airbreaks". Instead of the typical front/rear brakes on actual bike/motorcycles (or just a single brake control as in cars), in Wipeout you get left/right brakes (two axis).
Using one brake causes drifiting, which allows taking turns in a crab-like way (or kinda similar to circle strafing in FPS games).
Last, the controls allow for pitch handling using up/down. Avoid being pitch-disaligned to the track when running over slopes/jumps, allows for building and keeping more speed.
tl;dr Wipeout XP features a singular, well-built control scheme that makes it difficult but very rewarding to master. It was followed by Wip3out (Wipeout 3), the last entry on the 5th generation consoles.
