Renal Clearance is a measure of glomerular filtration rate. Amount of substance cleared by kidneys per minute is clearance for that compound. According to the National Kidney Foundation, normal  range from 90 to 120 mL per min per 1.73 meter square. GFR = 120ml per min Substances used to measure clearance or GFR 1. Inulin Clearance, CIn: Invasive, Gold Standard; CIn=GFR 2. Creatinine Clearance CCr:Endogenous, most widely used; CCr more than GFR, It over estimates GFR effective GFR (eGFR) is better Measure *eGFR - Estimated glomerular filtration rate is the best test to measure your level of kidney function and determines the stage of kidney disease.  3. Urea Clearance CU: Endogenous, not accurate; CU LESS THAN GFR 4. Cystatin C (novel marker): Endogenous, specific and sensitive to small changes in GFR Still not commonly used *effective GFR (eGFR) of Cystatin C is used to measure GFR of kidneys
