Allegro (21:35) Arturo Toscanini, conductor The NBC Symphony Orchestra Recorded on November 11, 1939 in Studio 8H Radio City, New York The Toscanini Beethoven Cycle from 1939 is legendary, and it has been issued numerous times over the years. The present performance of the 5th Symphony has always been a favorite on this channel, and with good reason. Back in the early 60s the present recording was our first experience with Toscanini and Beethoven. It has held a special place ever since. The new mastering brings out details that have never been heard before in the performance, like the swells in the brass in the finale of the first movement and more. As is the case in all our new restorations, the original recording far exceeds YouTube's MP4 resolution. A slight amount of noise reduction has been used in the midrange, otherwise the recording is presented without further filtering. Digital transfer and mastering (2013): Aaron Z.
