In Video 3 of the microgrid series, we run the load flow on the IEEE 33-bus distribution system in MATLAB and read the results: bus voltages, voltage angles, line currents, and active and reactive power losses. Then we increase the load at one bus and see how the whole feeder responds.
In this video, you will learn:
A quick review of the IEEE 33-bus bus data and line data (R and X)
How to call the LoadFlowAnalysis function and print the results
How to read the bus voltage magnitude and angle in the Command Window
How to plot active (kW) and reactive (kvar) power losses on each line
How to plot the voltage profile and find the bus with the lowest voltage
What happens when the load at bus 20 increases: new losses and new voltages

0:50 IEEE 33-bus recap: bus data and line data
4:00 Calling the LoadFlowAnalysis function
5:00 Printing voltages, losses and line currents
6:05 Running the load flow
7:35 Active and reactive power losses per line
9:25 Voltage profile along the feeder
10:40 Reading the results on the single-line diagram
13:25 What if the load changes? Increasing the load at bus 20
14:15 New results after the load change
💡 Key result: most of the losses are in the first lines near the substation, because they carry the most current. The voltage drops along the feeder and is lowest at the end of the main feeder.
