The 17th edition of IDEX, held in Abu Dhabi from 18 to 22 February 2025, brought together over 1,300 exhibitors from 65 countries with more than 150,000 attendees. In this final wrap-up, Defence Central covers the remaining platforms and systems that stood out at the exhibition. Israel Aerospace Industries made the first public confirmation of the Arrow 5 ballistic missile interceptor, with IAI CEO Boaz Levy stating that the system is designed to deliver new capabilities beyond the existing Arrow 2 and Arrow 3 layers. While technical specifications remain undisclosed, Arrow 5 is aimed at countering evolving long-range ballistic missile threats, and Levy confirmed that IAI is in discussions with several international customers about the Arrow missile defence family. Sweden's Saab showcased the Coast Control Radar, a non-rotating AESA-based coastal surveillance system developed at Saab's UAE research and development facility. Unlike traditional rotating radars, the CCR provides persistent 360-degree coverage with minimal maintenance requirements and is capable of tracking small vessels up to 140 kilometres away, distinguishing between closely spaced contacts in littoral environments.
European defence cooperation with the UAE expanded further at IDEX: Spain's Indra signed a joint venture agreement with the EDGE Group to co-develop AESA radar systems supporting UAE domestic defence production, and Indra presented its MTR10 air defence radar and the NEMIS-C counter-drone radar to Middle East audiences for the first time. From South Asia, India's Kalyani Group unveiled the MArG 155mm 45-calibre mounted gun system, described as the world's first 155mm howitzer on a 4x4 vehicle platform. Compared to conventional 6x6 or 8x8 artillery systems, the MArG offers significantly enhanced mobility for mountainous and off-road environments while retaining NATO-standard shell compatibility, a 36-kilometre range, a rate of fire of 10 rounds in three minutes, and the ability to relocate within 1.5 minutes. The system is also reported to be air-transportable. Pakistan's Global Industrial and Defence Solutions introduced the BLAZE-25 loitering munition, a 25-kilogram tube-launched drone with electric propulsion for low acoustic and thermal signature, a 75-kilometre operational range, 60-minute loiter endurance, and an encrypted ISR data link. The space dimension of modern defence was represented by Space42 and EDGE Group announcing a joint venture to develop earth observation satellites and establish a sovereign space intelligence hub in the UAE, complemented by Space42's synthetic aperture radar satellite offering all-weather high-resolution imaging for defence and security applications.
