The seventh webinar in our 12 Months, 12 Domains webinar series, which takes a deeper look at the Self-Reliance Index (SRI) one domain at a time, explored evidence-based approaches to expanding employment opportunities for refugees—from skills development and digital work to entrepreneurship and private-sector engagement.
Following a featured presentation examining the promise and limitations of remote work as a livelihood strategy for displaced populations in East Africa, a panel of experts discussed refugee-led skill-building initiatives, private-sector engagement, entrepreneurship, and labor mobility opportunities. The webinar also explored how systems-level policies and partnerships at the humanitarian-development nexus shape refugees' access to employment and ability to become self-reliant.
This webinar was moderated by Sasha Muench, Market-Based Programming Advisor to the RSRI. Speakers included:
Emma Smith | Assistant Professor, Georgetown University
Murshid Alam | Founder & Executive Lead, Rohingya Youth Union (RYU)
Lorraine Charles | Founder & Executive Director, Na'amal
Stephen Mwangi | National Programme Coordinator, International Labour Organization (ILO)
