Qanun Archives: Armenia

A tree becomes a qanun. The journey of transformation from a lime branch to an music instrument shows how an object that was banished with its people from Cilicia fell on fertile ground in Armenia, and how, in the hands of an innovative musician and lecturer, a masculine and individual sound was transformed into a collective feminine music that is now experiencing hype as an Armenian style of playing.
