Meyer Lansky died in his bed. Roberto Calvi, Michele Sindona and Allen Dorfman did not. Five men kept the mob's money, and the record shows who paid for knowing where it went. Roberto Calvi, chairman of Banco Ambrosiano, was found hanging under Blackfriars Bridge in London on June 18, 1982. A London inquest found suicide; in 2010 an Italian appeal court upheld the acquittals of five people tried for his murder and said he was murdered. Nobody has been convicted. Michele Sindona was sentenced to life in Milan on March 18, 1986 for ordering the murder of the liquidator Giorgio Ambrosoli, and died four days later after drinking coffee that contained cyanide in Voghera prison; the case was closed as suicide. Allen Dorfman, the Teamsters pension fund consultant, was shot dead in a hotel parking lot in Lincolnwood on January 20, 1983, weeks after a federal bribery conviction; no one has been charged. Moe Dalitz was never convicted of a serious crime and died in Las Vegas in 1989, aged 89. Meyer Lansky was acquitted of tax evasion in Miami in 1973 and died of lung cancer on January 15, 1983, aged 80; federal authorities believed he had hidden about $300 million, and nobody found it.
