Traveling internationally with a power wheelchair is a completely different experience than simply packing a suitcase and getting on a plane. In Part 1 of our Germany accessible travel series, Andrea and I take you through the entire journey from South Florida to Munich, Germany. You’ll see us leave home, arrive at Miami International Airport, go through Lufthansa check-in and mobility assistance, relax in Business Class, and navigate one of the most vulnerable parts of wheelchair air travel: transferring out of my power wheelchair, into an aisle chair, and trusting the airline to safely transport the chair that gives me my independence. We’ll also take you onboard Lufthansa’s Boeing 747-8, share our Business Class experience, connect through Frankfurt, arrive in Munich, reunite with my wheelchair, meet our accessible transportation driver, experience the German Autobahn and finally check into Hotel Bayerischer Hof.
