Austria’s most beautiful panoramic road. The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is 48 kilometres in length. Over that distance there are 36 twists and turns to tackle up and downhill – right up to the Hochtor at 2504 metres altitude. The highest drivable point is actually even higher: the Edelweiss Spitze at 2571 metres, via an access road. From here you get to enjoy a breathtaking view to over 30 three-thousand metre mountains – and to the Grossglockner too, which, at 3798 metres, is Austria’s highest mountain! And here’s another exciting number – it is the only high Alpine road in Austria to cross 4 vegetation levels from the valley to the highest point – from montane level to subalpine level, continuing through the treeless Alpine level up to the glaciers and the highest summits in subnival and nival levels. But be aware, the entry to the road is quite pricy, about 50 Euro per an auto .
