The Gledholt Blockade reaches its conclusion in the longest On Track With Tim update yet — a 42-minute documentary covering the final four days of one of the most significant periods of engineering work around Huddersfield during the TransPennine Route Upgrade.
Filmed across Thursday 1st, Friday 2nd, Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th October, this extended update follows the final stages of the blockade across Springwood Junction, Huddersfield, Hillhouse and Deighton as engineers work towards reopening the railway.
At Springwood Junction, a tamper train is seen working over the newly reconstructed railway. After extensive track removal, formation work, ballast and new track installation during the blockade, tamping forms an important part of preparing the railway for operational use by compacting and aligning the ballast beneath the track.
The video then follows progress at Huddersfield Railway Station, where the major reconstruction continues. New track layouts, platform works, canopies, overhead line equipment and other infrastructure have dramatically changed the station throughout the blockade.
At Hillhouse, engineers are seen working on a new switch and crossing panel, another important element of the redesigned railway layout around Huddersfield.
Further east at Deighton, one of the most visible milestones of the final weekend takes place as new station staircases and the footbridge are lifted into position, bringing the rebuilt Deighton Station another step closer to its future form.
Attention then turns to Leeds Road and the A62 overbridge, where a significant build-up of machinery, plant and construction materials suggests preparations for another major engineering operation around the bridge and future fast-line alignment.
Across the four days, the video documents the final push to complete work before the end of the blockade, bringing together track engineering, station construction, bridge works, specialist railway machinery and major infrastructure changes across the Huddersfield area.
The Gledholt Blockade has seen extensive work through Gledholt Tunnel, Springwood Junction, Huddersfield Station, Deighton and the surrounding railway, including track removal and reconstruction, tunnel works, new S&C, ballast and tamping, station structures, overhead line equipment and preparation for the future fast lines.
This 42-minute documentary brings the series together by following the final stages of the blockade before trains return to the route.
On Track With Tim will continue documenting the TransPennine Route Upgrade between Manchester and York, following Huddersfield Railway Station, Deighton, Bradley Junction, Gledholt Tunnel, Springwood Junction, electrification, fast-line construction and the wider transformation of the railway across West Yorkshire.
