The Lakeland Slateman Triathlon took place in 1993, 1994 and 1995 from the Glenridding Hotel, Glenridding, Cumbria.
This is a two-hour video of the 1994 event when around 80 competitors took part from 20 UK Police Forces.
The event set in the heart of the beautiful Lake District was conceived and organised by Steve Broadbent secretary of Lancashire Constabulary Athletics Club. The event in its day was quite unique offering a tough, gruelling, challenging course comprising 1 mile open-water swim, 40 mile road cycle, 12 mile fell-run.
The one mile open-water swim was in Lake Ullswater heading up toward Pooley Bridge around two mark buoys and returning.
The cycle navigated main roads to Keswick, down to Ambleside, up 'The Struggle' to Kirkstone Pass through Patterdale in a 40 mile loop.
The 14 mile fell-run traversed St Sunday Crag, Fairfield, Helvellyn and Raise summits, total ascent of circa 4000 feet.
The event still takes place in September under the 'TriHard' Events name 'Helvellyn Triathlon' organised by previous Slateman competitor, Rob Wilkins formally from Cleveland Police.
The video was kindly produced and edited by Peter Parker ( Venture Video Copywrite 1994)
