भादों का महीना चल रहा है और पर्युषण के दिन भी। इन्हीं दिनों में एक कथा ऐसी है जिसे सुनना सबसे ज़रूरी है, क्योंकि इन दिनों का पूरा काम यही कथा कहती है। This is the story of Sadhvi Mrigavati and Arya Chandanbala, told in full for the Bhadva and Paryushan days. मृगावती वैशाली के महाराज चेटक की पुत्री थीं, कौशांबी के राजा शतानीक की रानी थीं, और राजकुमार उदयन की माँ थीं। और चंदनबाला, जिन्हें बचपन में वसुमती कहा जाता था, उनकी सगी बहन धारिणी की बेटी थीं। यानी अपनी ही भानजी। Mrigavati was the daughter of King Chetak of Vaishali and queen of Kaushambi. Chandanbala was her own sister's daughter. Years later, the queen took diksha and became the disciple of the girl who had once been sold in her city's marketplace. फिर आई वो रात। देशना में देर हो गई, मृगावती अंधेरा होने के बाद उपाश्रय लौटीं, गुरुणी चंदनबाला ने डाँटा, और मृगावती ने बिना कोई बहाना बनाए क्षमा माँगी। उसी क्षमायाचना में उन्हें केवलज्ञान हो गया। और फिर उस अंधेरे में उन्होंने वो साँप देखा जो सोई हुई चंदनबाला के लटकते हाथ की ओर बढ़ रहा था। That night, the one who had made the mistake reached omniscience first, because she took the mistake fully as her own.
