San Francisco Cable Car Front View: The *HYDE RIDE* Loop!

Experience a full front-window driver's perspective aboard San Francisco Muni's special "Hyde Ride" cable car service, running between Aquatic Park (Hyde & Beach) and Chinatown (Washington & Powell)! Operated in partnership with the nonprofit Market Street Railway, the Hyde Ride was established to utilize available capacity on the separate Hyde Street underground cable loop without adding congestion to the Powell Street trunk line. The service features historic double-ended cable cars, which are noticeably longer than the standard single-ended Powell Street cars that run in this area. Departing the Hyde & Beach terminal near Victorian Park and Ghirardelli Square, the route climbs directly up the steep 21.3% grade on Hyde Street through Russian Hill, passing world-famous Lombard Street. The car then loops toward Chinatown, passing just outside the historic Cable Car Barn and Powerhouse at Mason Street. In one continuous trip, the car then loops back for a second crossing of Russian Hill before plunging down the Hyde Street grade, framing iconic panoramic views across San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz Island, and the Golden Gate Strait!
