The Cleopatra 1963 Casting Story Everyone Gets Wrong

When people picture the 1963 film "Cleopatra," they picture one specific cast: Elizabeth Taylor as the queen, Richard Burton as Mark Antony, Rex Harrison as Julius Caesar. It feels like the only version of this movie that could have ever existed. Except it almost wasn't. The film that actually went into production in 1960 starred none of those three people, was a fraction of the budget, and fell apart so completely that almost everyone involved, including the leading lady, had to be replaced before the movie audiences know today ever got made. 🕐 TIMESTAMPS 0:00 - The Cast Everyone Assumes Was Always There 0:40 - The Two Million Dollar Version Nobody Remembers 1:09 - The Actress Who Turned Down the Role 2:00 - The Original 1960 Cast 2:26 - The Illness That Nearly Ended Everything 3:08 - Starting Over in Rome 3:41 - How Burton and Harrison Actually Got Cast 4:25 - The Understudy Who Almost Took Over 4:53 - A Completely Different Movie By 1963 5:17 - Setting the Record Straight 📚 SOURCES REFERENCED IN THIS VIDEO Cheat Sheet: "Joan Collins Lost the Role of 'Cleopatra' to Elizabeth Taylor": https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/joan-...
