Every Evil Batman Variant’s Origin Story Explained | Batman Lore
One rainy alley, one vow, one line he swore never to cross. Then a universe where he crosses it anyway. A Batman who becomes the monster he was built to stop, dozens of versions, and the one moment they all share. It starts with the template: the pearls on the wet stone, the promise to a dead father, the no-kill rule that held for decades. Then the father who takes up the mantle in his dead son's place and never puts the gun down, and the son who raises the revolver that same night instead of lowering it.
From there it goes worse. A Doomsday-born virus turns one Bruce into a thing that tears through the Justice League and calls it victory. A Batmobile strapped to the Flash makes every burst of speed cost a year of his life. An AI wearing Alfred's voice decides Gotham's real problem is arithmetic. The drowned city, the war god's helmet, the corrupted ring, these are the seven the Dark Multiverse sent, the ones Barbatos hunted out of dying worlds.
And it doesn't stop at seven. The vampire, the machine, the one who kills criminals before they're born, the one who talks straight at the reader, the one the Countermeasures can't reach, and the name nobody has said out loud yet. Because the real horror isn't that evil Batmen exist. It's that each one starts as the same man, and the space between them is one second past the grief. The question left at the end is what the current Batman has left once all the faces are gone.
