Part 4 of the Native American headdress build: the ornaments. Rabbit fur, beadwork panels, hide strips and two steel discs cut by hand. 💬 No pattern for this one. Custom leatherwork made to order: redsmithleatherwork@gmail.com Patterns & finished pieces: https://www.redsmithleatherwork.com/ 🛠️ HOW IT WAS MADE The two side pieces are rabbit skin, beads and cotton thread. Soft materials, delicate handling — fur does not forgive a heavy needle. Then two strips cut from hide, and a veg tan leather backing to carry the beadwork from Part 1. This is where the loom panel finally stops being a loose strip and becomes part of the piece. The last elements are the two metal discs, which are not shown in the video because they took about ten minutes. A 0.5mm steel sheet, two discs cut as round as I could manage, a hole drilled through the centre of each. That is the whole operation. 🪶 ABOUT THIS BUILD A war bonnet is not a costume. Among the Plains Nations it is earned regalia — feathers granted for acts of courage and service — and it carries a meaning no craft project can borrow. I built this one out of admiration, not entitlement. As a kid in France I discovered Native American craftsmanship through the films our TV showed on Sunday nights, and the skill in those pieces never left me. This series is a study of that skill: the loom beadwork, the featherwork, the hide sewing. It is a tribute to the people who developed those techniques, and to nothing else. This piece was never made as a Halloween outfit, a disguise or a cosplay, and it is not presented as one. No eagle feathers were used — every feather here is goose, bought, not taken. If you are Native and something in this build is careless or wrong, tell me in the comments. I would rather learn than repeat a mistake. ▶ THE BUILD, STEP BY STEP Full build in one video:    • Making A Native American Headdress - Full ...   Part 1 — Beading on a loom:    • Native American Headdress Part 1 - Beading...   Part 2 — Preparing the feathers:    • Native American Headdress Part 2 - Prepari...   Part 3 — Making the bonnet:    • Native American Headdress Part 3 - Making ...   Part 5 — Final assembly:    • Native American Headdress Part 5 - Final A...   — — — 🔗 THE RED GUILD Patterns & tutorials: https://www.redsmithleatherwork.com/ Patreon:   / theredsmith   Instagram:   / redsmithleatherwork   TikTok:   / redsmithleatherwork   ▶ More builds: Leatherworking:    • Leatherworking   Knife making:    • Knife Making   Blacksmithing:    • Blacksmithing   Metalworking:    • Metalworking   🎵 Music: Rainy Day in Tokyo by Gadget Junkies As always - be good, be safe, and keep making! #nativeamericanheaddress #warbonnet #beadwork #furcraft #leathercraft #leatherwork #handmade #traditionalcraft #diy #craft
