Fire Prevention in Portland With Willis Kimbel

Fire retardant. Skateboarding. Mt. Hood. Portland. And a couple days hanging with one of the Northwest’s finest. Jeff and I loaded up and headed north to Portland to link up with legendary pro skateboarder Willis Kimbel. First stop: Willis’ cabin on Mt. Hood. After crashing there for the night, we got up the next morning, met up with Willis and got to work applying Komodo long-term fire retardant around his property—adding another layer of proactive wildfire protection to an incredible spot tucked into the mountain. From there, things got a little more Portland. We headed into Chinatown and made our way to Willis’ DIY skatepark, where we treated EVERY WOOD RAMP in the park with fire retardant. Because wildfire prevention doesn’t have to stop at homes and businesses. Skateparks, gathering places, community spaces and the things people build with their own hands are worth protecting too. After wrapping up the application, we spent the rest of the day hanging with Willis at Rips Co., his skate shop in Portland—talking skateboarding, motorcycles, wildfire, life and everything in between. This trip represents a side of Resilience Wildfire Solutions that we want to show a lot more of. We travel. We meet interesting people. We protect interesting places.
