Ewan McGregor and Christopher Plummer...A Power Pair | Beginners (2011) | Oscar Rewind

Before Olivier Bugge Coutté earned his first Oscar nomination for editing Sentimental Value, he helped shape Mike Mills' tender, nonlinear story Beginners—a film that earned Christopher Plummer his long-awaited Academy Award. 🎬 Oscar Rewind – Season 3, Episode 47 Beginners follows Oliver, a 38-year-old graphic designer grieving the death of his father, Hal, while reflecting on his parents, his childhood and his own complicated relationship with love. Told across multiple timelines, Mike Mills' deeply personal film explores what it means to begin again—at any age. In this episode of Oscar Rewind, I look at: 🎬 Olivier Bugge Coutté's editing and the way he seamlessly moves between multiple timelines. 🎭 Christopher Plummer's Oscar-winning performance as Hal and why his energy makes the character so memorable. ⭐ Ewan McGregor's understated performance as Oliver and Mélanie Laurent's wonderful work as Anna. 🎥 Mike Mills' direction and deeply personal screenplay. ❤️ The film's exploration of love, family, grief and coming of age later in life. 🏆 Christopher Plummer's remarkable awards-season run, culminating in his Oscar win. 🎞️ And, of course, my final verdict on Beginners. Have you seen Beginners? And what's your favorite Christopher Plummer performance?
