It is a closed loop, so the product keeps improving after launch. Sense: We start with the people who will use the AI. We map their jobs to be done and find where work slows down, such as information overload, manual work and expertise that doesn't scale. Then we look at the AI itself: what the model can do, which architecture fits (LLM wrapper, fine-tuned model, RAG or custom training), what data exists and what accuracy is acceptable. Shape: We map who makes which decisions and set autonomy levels by risk. For low-risk tasks, the AI acts with light human oversight. For medium-risk tasks, the AI suggests and a person approves. For high-risk tasks, people stay in control. We test with AI workflow prototypes and Wizard-of-Oz sessions before engineering builds the real thing. This shows how users react to low-confidence and wrong answers. Steer: We stay embedded with the engineering team through the build. After launch, we track accuracy, drift, bias and adoption, and we adjust thresholds, messaging and feedback loops as real users interact with the AI.
