ICARDA Livestock Feed in Lebanon

Imports of livestock feed in Lebanon cost the country millions of dollars from reserves. In partnership with the Lebanese Agricultural Research Institute, and funded by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, ICARDA’s research-for-development as part of the CGIAR network, into the use of dryland forages for feeding farm animals has meant that local production of feed has now become a pillar of sustainable development for the animal sector. Climate resistant forages not only act as excellent and sustainable nutritional sustenance, they also contribute to maintaining and enabling diversity of farm livestock, saving money, and increasing food security across the MENA region.
