Electric Kettle Not Working - Causes and Fixes

Is your electric kettle not working, not heating, or completely dead? A kettle that suddenly stops working can have several possible causes, including a faulty power base, damaged electrical contacts, a bad switch or thermostat, an open heating element, boil-dry protection, or a loose terminal connection underneath the kettle. In this video, you’ll learn how to: Check the kettle power base and connector Inspect the power cord and plug Check for burnt or loose electrical terminals Test the heating element with a multimeter Test the switch and thermostat for continuity Inspect the thermal safety system Diagnose a faulty bottom terminal assembly Find loose or weak electrical contacts Reassemble the kettle correctly Test the automatic shutoff after repair In the kettle shown here, the heating element and switch were still working correctly. The real fault was inside the terminal assembly, where one metal contact was no longer making a reliable electrical connection. After the contact was restored and continuity was confirmed, the kettle heated normally again and automatically switched off when the water reached boiling point. Always unplug the kettle before opening it or performing resistance and continuity tests. Never bypass thermostats, thermal fuses, or boil-dry protection devices. If you find melted plastic, badly burned contacts, damaged insulation, or severe corrosion, replacing the damaged assembly or the entire kettle is the safer option.
