The town lies on the northern edge of the Harz Mountains, right at the foot of the Brocken, and is best known for the wild and romantic Ilse Valley and its proximity to the Harz’s natural beauty. Ilsenburg also looks back on a history spanning more than a thousand years. Particularly worth seeing is the former Benedictine monastery in Ilsenburg, whose origins date back to the early 11th century and whose Romanesque monastery church has been preserved to this day. As I stroll through the city center, I can leisurely explore the blend of historic architecture, the Harz landscape, and the town’s peaceful daily life. Enjoy watching!
