TBS High: 6 To 9 / JO244-BS-HDTV Bumper (2000 W-VHS HDTV Japanese MUSE Hi-Vision Ch 9 TV Footage)

These are the TBS High "JO244-BS-HDTV and "6 To 9" bumpers as originally transmitted on TBS High in Japan via the analog MUSE satellite transmission system in 2000 and recorded to JVC Victor's analog W-VHS HDTV tape recording system. Early Japanese Hi-Vision (HDTV) transmissions used a single channel for all content. Thus these bumpers were important for not only informing the viewer of the physical channel they were tuned into, but it also noted what broadcaster was currently active. Of particular interest is the "6 To 9" bumper which represents TBS's time slot of 6 to 9PM every Friday. W-VHS was the predecessor to the D-VHS system, the latter of which saw a true worldwide (but still relatively limited) release. Unlike the digital D-VHS system, the W-VHS tape system stores true analog component HD video on a tape with a similar form-factor as VHS/S-VHS tapes. Released in 1994, these players were the earliest and only way for consumers to record the Japanese 1035i HD MUSE satellite transmissions for a number of years. Enjoy this classic TBS bumper! Fun fact: JO244-BS-HDTV represent the physical ground transmitter's call sign to the active BSAT-1 satellite.
