When this iconic Vekoma multi-looping roller coaster opened back in 1989 it was one of Europe's most advanced and thrilling roller coasters, and had the most inversions of any coaster in Europe until Dragon Khan in 1989. Whilst the ride experience hasn't exactly aged well, Goudurix still retains a unique layout with 7 inversions taken at rapid speed over 950 metres (3100 feet) of track. The ride is one of two coasters in the World to feature the Butterfly element, a compound inversion made up of two inversions that resemble vertical loops, but are shaped at a 45 degree angle so that trains exit the complex in the same direction they entered. The only other coaster with a Butterfly is Blue Hawk (formerly Ninja) at Six Flags over Georgia. Reaching speeds of 55 mph, Goudurix also contains a batwing, vertical loop and a pair of corkscrews, all of which offer fantastic positive G-forces.
Goudurix is one of 8 custom MK-1200 coasters manufactured by Vekoma between 1983 and 1999. Other famous examples of this ride type include French Revolution at Lotte World in South Korea, Big Loop at Heide Park Resort, Ninja at Mid American Adventure and Millennium at Fantasy Island. French Revolution and Millennium both offer surprisingly smooth ride experiences, but unfortunately Goudrix is notoriously rough despite undergoing several retracks over the years and new restraints added in 2025 to the original 1989 chassis. What do you think the future holds for this classic French roller coaster?
