2026 Watershed Wednesdays Week 7 - From Seeds to Trees: Source-Identified Native Plant Stock in VT

Successful floodplain forest restoration begins years before planting day. This presentation follows the Intervale Center’s approach to restoring degraded landscapes—from collecting source-identified native seed, to growing high-quality plant stock in the nursery, to partnering with organizations across Vermont to restore forests and streambanks. Staff from the Intervale Center will share how Vermont’s native seed collection network and nursery propagation systems work together to provide genetically appropriate plant material for restoration projects across the state. Participants will learn about seed sourcing, species selection, nursery best practices, and the challenges and opportunities of producing native plants at scale to support resilient floodplain forests.
