They're Investigating the Leak, Not the Buggy | Privilege in Seychelles

ONE BUGGY. TOO MANY QUESTIONS. A brand-new buggy, with air conditioning, photographed being shipped from Mahé to La Digue. On an island where you cannot import a buggy unless you are a resident or have a business there. On an island where Cabinet suspended all new buggy and electric vehicle approvals on 7 August, until further notice. On an island Government itself declared at capacity back in 2022. So who is this one for? Government now says it was a gift to President Patrick Herminie. It also confirms the buggy was first registered in his personal name, not State House, and that this is "being corrected." Fine. Then tell the people: Who donated it? Where did it come from? What was it worth? Who approved the importation? Who approved the registration? And here is the part nobody can explain away: when the State receives a donation, there is a handover. A photo. A press release on the State House website. This time, nothing. Silence, until the paperwork leaked. Because it did leak. The Principal Secretary for Land Transport is now away from the office while an investigation runs. Not into how a restricted vehicle reached La Digue. Into how the public found out. Read that again. The leak is being investigated. The privilege is not. We are not declaring anyone guilty. We are asking for the file. The documents. The approvals. The registration records. The donor. Because a government cannot tell ordinary people the rules exist, then leave the country wondering whether those rules bend at the top.
