Minoxidil not working even after 3–6 months? If you are using Minoxidil consistently but still seeing hair loss, no hair growth or very little improvement, the problem may not simply be the brand or the dose. Minoxidil response can vary because of sulfotransferase enzyme activity, application technique, underlying deficiencies, scalp inflammation, androgenetic alopecia and other factors. In this doctor-led video, we explain why Minoxidil does not work the same way for everyone, how topical Minoxidil is converted into active Minoxidil sulfate, why some people are Minoxidil non-responders, when 6 months may still be too early to judge results, and what evidence-based options may be considered when topical Minoxidil is not giving meaningful hair regrowth. WHY IS MINOXIDIL NOT WORKING? Topical Minoxidil is a prodrug. It needs to be converted in the scalp into active Minoxidil sulfate by the sulfotransferase enzyme. Enzyme activity can differ between individuals, which may help explain why one person gets visible Minoxidil results while another sees little response despite consistent use. But enzyme activity is not the only factor. Incorrect application, wrong concentration, washing too early, irregular use, scalp inflammation or an underlying deficiency can also affect the outcome. MINOXIDIL AFTER 6 MONTHS: WHEN SHOULD YOU REASSESS? The video discusses a realistic Minoxidil timeline: initial shedding may happen during the first few months, shedding may begin to settle around 3–6 months, and meaningful hair growth is usually assessed over a longer 6–12 month window. If you have used Minoxidil consistently for 6–8 months with zero improvement, a structured medical assessment may help identify whether the issue is technique, diagnosis, enzyme activity, hormonal factors or another underlying cause. TOPICAL VS ORAL MINOXIDIL For some topical Minoxidil non-responders, oral Minoxidil may be discussed by a qualified doctor because activation occurs differently. Oral Minoxidil is not something to self-start. Dose selection, blood pressure, medical history and possible side effects need professional supervision. MINOXIDIL BOOSTERS & COMBINATION TREATMENT The video also discusses options such as microneedling, Tretinoin, Azelaic Acid and topical caffeine, along with Finasteride or Dutasteride in selected cases of androgenetic alopecia. These are not one-size-fits-all treatments and should be chosen according to the individual diagnosis Using Minoxidil for months but still not seeing results?
